“I was a college athlete, and continued that mindset of no pain, no gain after college. I didn’t know how to exercise any other way. I tried yoga here and there, but never bought into it as I thought it was too passive and believed I didn’t have time for an hour of stretching. Then, 2 years ago at age 51, I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis- the narrowing of my spinal column. Two bulging discs created so much nerve pain that I was rendered basically immobile for almost 3 months. I was told I should avoid all high impact cardio and strength training. I had to completely rethink how I exercised, so in desperation I reached out to yoga, where I found Annette. Through yoga, she has taught me better realignment and posture which has allowed me to regain the strength along my spine necessary to protect my back. It has restored my balance which I had slowing lost due to nerve damage in my left leg. More importantly, with Annette’s guidance and support, I have learned to listen to what my body needs and trust it again. Working with Annette has given me the confidence to start weight training again- something I thought I’d never be able to again!”
